Carol's Knitting Studio

Oklahoma only has a few yarn shops in the entire State. I was there the third day she opened and WOW, what a delight! When traveling, I have stopped in numerous shops that were drab and unfriendly but you won't get that here. Everyone in our area is so thrilled Carol's Knitting Studio has openend--not that we just have a local yarn shop but WHAT we have!

It is a very unique and intimate shop, off the beaten path, in a small business complex. From the moment you enter the french door onto the beautiful hardwood floor, surrounded by the faux finish walls and handpainted vines, you immediately feel a sense of warm and cozy. It's a small shop, yet you don't feel crowded. It is displayed so nice. Carol has it filled with shelves and wicker lined baskets of fine yarns from all over. What a great selection of fibers and colors with lots of specialty yarns! She has models and sample swatches displayed thru out and her own collection of handknits for sale. She has supplies, a good pattern selection and wonderful kits AND teaches classes--even a special class for kids.

I have been in her shop every week since I found her and I don't live in the Metroplex, but it is well worth the trip to the City. Anyone near the Oklahoma City area should check out this treasure.

This is the most recent yarn shop I've visited. It's tucked into a small business complex. The shop is small but out of the 8 shops I've visited, with the exception of one, Carol uses the space to it's maximum. She has a fantastic selection of yarn. She greeted me immediately and took me on a tour of the shop, the yarns and accessories. She was enthusiastic about her yarns and has a very thorough knowledge. She prides herself on offering yarns that are not carried by other local shops. I'll definitely go back.

I have been to all the LYS's in the metro OKC area (and several out of state too). We are truly blessed as knitters/crocheters to have several really good stores. Carol's is one. It is not so visible from the road (like Gourmet Yarn), but it's there! Carol is very warm and friendly. I spent several lunch hours in there trying to diffuse some work stress (ahhh... yarn!). Carol was very friendly and even though the shop is smaller, she was relaxed and let me browse to my heart's content.

This shop is tucked back in the corner and would be hard to find if I had not had prior knowledge to look behind the stairs. The staff are friendly and willing to offer any assistance. The yarn selections are nice and the needles and accessories are displayed in such a way, you don't have to dig to find the right needle size. They have a calendar of two months of classes.

You can't see the store from the road, but it's there. You must go! The staff are very friendly and the store is growing. I needed one skein of a certain yarn to finish a felted bag... they gladly ordered it for me. My daughters are learning to knit and they love to look at the selection of colors and novelty yarns. Definitely worth visiting/frequenting!

I want so much to like this store. The store is close and handy to me. Oklahoma City has so few quality fiber stores for hooking and knitting that I am ready to relocate.Time and again I have gone in this store only to be treated rudely by an apathetic person(s). Even the sweet ladies in my knitting class at church are occasionally heard grumbling about the very same uncaring attitude. The store seems to know they have the market cornered and have forgotten customer service.I will drive 28 miles round trip to get yarn or order online rather than to return to a store who obviously cares more about the dollar than the art of knitting and knitters themselves. 2/10

I discovered SWAK by accident while on an antiquing adventure. I had crocheted for years, but hadn't quite gotten the hang of knitting. I signed up for one of their classes and now I'm hooked.

SWAK has fun project and technique classes available just about all the time. The owners (Keely & Sherry Steuver - daughter/mother) have a cute, well-stocked store and also have tons of expert advice for anyone needing assistance. They also have workshops and trunk shows from prominent knitting designers. You can always find out what is new and exciting on their website or by signing up for their weekly email newsletter.

Additionally, SWAK is located in historic dowtown Guthrie, OK. Guthrie has plenty of great antique shops and eateries. It is just 30 minutes north of Oklahoma City and just off Interstate 35 - easy in and easy out! A definite can't miss if you are traveling through Oklahoma!

I'm a fairly new knitter. I learned how to do the basic knit and purl years ago from a co-worker. I was itching to do something creative with my hands and decided to knit a washcloth. That was simple, square and so I picked up my handy Reader's Digest Needlework book and tried to figure out a pattern I would use. After a failed attempt I realized I needed some classes. So I got online and started my search. That is how I found SWAK. When I first walked into the store, I felt like small child walking into a candy store for the very first time. The building is one of Guthrie's old historic buildings and I'd be lying if I didn't say it very much adds to the eye appeal. The selection of yarn is fantastic. The yarn is displayed in such a way you feel as if you are walking through a field of yarn. Many of the display cabinets and tables are antiques which also adds to the charm. I've now taken three classes and recommend those to everyone. Each time I've been to the shop I'm greeted within a minute of walking through the door. I really appreciate that. While sometimes I want to just browse, it's very nice to know help is available. Sherry and Keely provide great customer service. The other ladies who work there seem very eager to help with any questions presented. I've visited yarn shops in three states now (yes, I'm hooked!) and SWAK is number one on my list.

Tucked away in a corner of the Nemar Shopping Center in Claremore, OK is a delightful surprise, a friendly, helpful yarn store. Teresa, the owner has been knitting ever since her grandmother taught her. She opened the shop just about one year ago. Although the store is small, the chairs are comfortable, the conversation is friendly and encouraging for newbies and the yarns are beautiful. A newsletter is available via email. Classes are run on a regular basis and can include small and large projects. It is delightful to have a yarn store so near especially one so friendly. Stop by when you can, you will enjoy it. 8/11
