The staff is absolutely wonderful and extremely knowledgeable. I never feel uneasy about asking for assistance on a project or yarns. Selection is continually growing and the coffee/tea is always on. Yarn is available for all projects and all seasons. 8/08

There's a great little shop in Fargo, North Dakota called Yarn Renaissance.

If you are traveling, it is only a couple miles on main streets from the intersection of I-29 and I-94. From that grand intersection, travel north on I-29 to 13th Ave S, and go east (towards downtown and the river, away from the big mall) for 1-2 miles on a four lane road. The intersection with University Ave is there. They have their own parking lot.

Until they opened, I had to drive to Winnipeg, Manitoba to Ram Wools for quality yarn and REAL knitting supplies or order by mail. Oh, I still use Ram Wools as an excuse to go to Winnipeg, but it's nice to only drive an hour and not cross an international border instead of three! The clerks there are WONDERFUL!

On my first visit to the Yarn Renaissance in Fargo, I was sorely disappointed. I came looking specifically for Mission Falls yarns and sock yarn. I found the Mission Falls easily enough, but the selection of sock yarn was pitiful. I found a few skeins of Lorna's Laces that looked YEARS old (from the sun-faded label) and multiple skeins of Schaefer Anne - in only one colorway. Lots of cotton sock yarn, but few wools or wool blends. I asked the clerk if they had any more sock yarns in the store. She acted like it was an absolute burden to answer my question as she led me to some washable Rowan yarns. Yarn Renaissance has an impressive selection of Rowan yarns, but they were all very expensive. As I looked at the rest of the yarns in the store, I found these high prices were widespread. There was a large selection of fluttery eyelash yarns and lots of Dale of Norway yarns. I ended up only getting a few skeins of the Mission Falls I had come for, but had to wait to be rung up while the clerk chatted with some friends. I was really let down by my experience. I would not recommend people stop at Yarn Renaissance unless you are looking for something specific and you have already know you can't get it cheaper elsewhere.
