Knot Stitch Sweater With Lace Ribbing

Knot Stich Sweater Knitting Pattern

This sweater pattern highlights Knot Stitch, creating simple overall texture. The Lace Ribbing is feminine and is used on the bottom and collar bands as well as the sleeves.

Small/Medium
Finished chest measurement = 40 inches

Gauge
20 sts and 21 rows=4" over Knot St

Materials
1,000 yards (930 meters) light worsted weight or sport weight 100% cotton yarn
Cotton offers excellent stitch definition which will show off this pattern stitch. Please see how to substitute yarn for more help.
Size 6 US (4.25 mm) needles or size to obtain gauge
Size 6 US (4.25 mm) 24" circular needles

Pattern Stitches

Lace Ribbing
Multiple of 7

Row 1 (RS): p2, *k5, p2*; rep from *, end k5
Row 2: *p5, k2*; rep from *
Row 3: p2, *k2tog, yo, k1, yo, ssk, p2*; rep from *, end k2tog, yo, k1, yo, ssk
Row 4: rep row 2

Spring Pullover

Multiple of 6 + 2

Row 1 (WS): P
Row 2: K
Row 3: P
Row 4: K3, * (make knot) Insert right needle under thread between next 2 sts on left needle, wrap yarn and loosely draw up a loop and place on right needle. Insert right needle above same thread and loosely draw up a second loop and place on right hand needle. With yarn in front, p first st from left needle. Pass first loop over second loop and p st, then pass second loop over p st-knot made; k5*; rep from *, end row with make knot, k4
Row 5: P
Row 6: K
Row 7: P
Row 8: K6, *make knot, k5*; rep from *, end row with make knot, k1

Knot Stitch

Note: Pattern includes one selvedge stitch on each end. Work the first and last st of every row in stockinette (or another selvedge stitch) and the pattern stitches over the remaining stitches.

Back
CO 100 sts.
Work in Lace Ribbing for 3" (4 repeats plus one row; end with a RS row completed).
Being working in Knot Stitch. Work even until piece measures 15" total.
BO 5 sts at beginning of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st at each end ever other row 9 times - 72 sts.
Work even until armhole measures 8½".
BO 7 sts at beginning of next 2 rows. BO 8 sts at beginning of next 2 rows.
Place rem sts on holder.

Front
Work same as back until armhole measures 3½".
Work 28 sts. Slip the next 16 sts to a holder. With a second ball of yarn, work remaining 28 sts.
Dec 1 st at neck edge every other row 12 times - 16 sts.
Work even until armhole measures 8½".
Begin shoulder shaping.
At armhole edge, BO 7 sts, then BO 8 sts.

Sleeves
CO 58 sts.
Work in Lace Ribbing for 2". On last row, inc 6 sts evenly across the row for a total of 64 sts (3 repeats plus one row; end with a RS row completed).
Begin working Knot Stitch.
Beginning with Row 6 of Knot Stitch, inc 1 st at each end every other row 3 times (70 sts).
Work even until piece measures 5½" total.
BO 5 sts at beginning of next 2 rows - 60 sts.
Dec 1 st at each end every other row 20 times (20 sts).
BO.

Neck Band
Seam right shoulder.
With circular needles, knit sts from front and back holders and pick up sts along neck edges evenly for a total of 114 sts (includes 2 selvedge sts). Please see Picking Up Stitches For Necklines And Armholes for more information.
Work in Lace Ribbing for 4 rows.
BO.

Finishing
Seam other shoulder. Sew in sleeves. Seam sleeves and side seams. Weave in ends on WS.
