Cabled Polo Collar Pullover Sweater Knitting Pattern

pullover

Featuring drop sleeves and several different stitch patterns for lots of texture, this sweater pattern is knit in cotton to really show off stitch definition.

Finished Chest Measurement=38"

Gauge:
16 sts=4" in St st with larger needles

Materials
750 yards worsted weight cotton yarn or appropriate substitution
Size 8 US (5 mm) needles
Size 10 US needles (6 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge

Same as Cable I but hold sts on cable needle in front.

Back

With smaller needles, CO 68 st. Work K1 P1 Rib 2½". Inc 14 st evenly over last row - 82 sts.
Change to larger needles and work in pattern as follows:
6 sts Seed Stitch, 6 sts Cable I, 13 sts Diamond, 6 sts Cable II, 20 sts St st (knit one row and purl the next), 6 sts Cable II, 13 sts Diamond, 6 sts Cable I, 6 sts Seed Stitch.
Work over pat as est 13". Mark for armholes.
Work another 9" for armholes.
BO 25 st beg next 2 rows.
Place rem st on holder.

Front

Work same as Back until sweater measures 13" and armholes are marked.
Keeping to pattern, work 37 sts, BO 8 sts, place 37 sts on holder to be worked later. Work until armhole measures 7".
At neck edge, BO 2 st every other row 4 times.
Work until armhole reaches 9".
BO.
Work 37 sts on holder in same manner.

Sleeves

With smaller needles, CO 46 st. Work K1 P1 Rib 1½". Inc 12 st evenly over last row - 58 sts.
Change to larger needles and work in pattern as follows:
26 sts Seed Stitch, 6 sts Cable I, 26 sts Seed Stitch
Keeping to pattern, inc 1 st each end every other row 9 times -76 sts.
Work 6".
BO.

Placket and Collar

Seam shoulders.
With smaller needles, pick up stitches along neck openings for the plackets, one for the button band and one for the buttonhole band. Please see Picking Up Stitches For Necklines And Armholes for more information.
Work K1 P1 Rib 1", making six buttonholes (or desired number) evenly spaced on the left side.
Lap buttonhole band over button band and sew to yoke.
Pick up sts for collar around neck (not around buttonhole and button bands). Work K1 P1 Rib 3½". BO.

Finishing

Sew in sleeves. Seam sleeves and sides. Sew on buttons. Weave in ends on WS.
