Man's Cabled Pullover

I think this sweater is appropriate for men and women, although it was designed with a man in mind.

Level: Intermediate
Yarn: 12 skeins Pingouin Mohican (one skein=82 yds/75m/1.75 oz/50g) or appropriate substitution
Needles: 8 and 10 US
Gauge: 4st=1"
Size: Small-Medium (finished chest measurement=42")

Row 1: k2, p3, k4, p6, k4, p3, k2
Row 2: p2, k3, p4, BC, p4, k3, p2
Row 3 and all other odd rows: Knit all knit sts and purl all purl stitches
Row 4: p2, (SFC, p2, SBC) twice, p2
Row 6: p3, SFC, SBC, p2, SFC, SBC, p3
Row 8: p4, FC, p4, BC, p4
Row 10: p3, SBC, SFC, p2, SBC, SFC, p3
Row 12: p2, (SBC, p2, SFC) twice, p2
Row 14: p2, k3, p4, FC, p4, k3, p2
Row 16: Repeat Row 4
Row 18: Repeat Row 6
Row 20: p4, BC, p4, FC, p4
Row 22: Repeat Row 10
Row 24: Repeat Row 12

Front Cross (FC): sl 3 sts to dpn or cable needle and hold in front, k3, then k3 from dpn
Back Cross (BC): sl 3 sts to dpn and hold in back, k3, then k3 from dpn
Single Front Cross (SFC): sl 3 sts to dpn and hold in front, p1, then k3 from dpn
Single Back Cross (SBC): sl 1 st to dpn and hold in back, k3, then p1 from dpn

Instructions

Sleeves

With smaller needles, CO 39 st. Rib k1p1 3". Inc 5 st evenly over last row (44 st).
Change to larger needles and knit in stockinette stitch.
Inc 1 st each end every 6th row 9 times (62 st).
Work 19½ or to desired length.
BO 4 st beg next 2 rows.
Dec 1 st each end every other row 17 times.
BO 20 st.

Back

With smaller needles, CO 80 st. Rib k1p1 3". Inc 4 st evenly over last row (84 st).
Change to larger needles and knit in stockinette stitch for 15" or to desired length.
BO 4 st beg next 2 rows (76 st).
Dec 1 st each end every other row 6 times (64 st).
Work armhole 9½".
BO 9 st each end, then 8 st each end. Place rem st on holder.

Front

With smaller needles, CO 80 st. Rib k1p1 3". Inc 20 st evenly over last row (100 st).
Work 38 st in stockinette stitch, place marker, work 24 st in cable pattern, place marker, work 38 st in stockinette stitch.
Work until 15" or same length as back.
BO 4 st beg next 2 rows (92 st).
Dec 1 st each end every other row 14 times (64 st).
Work until armhole is 6½".
Keeping to pattern, work 22 st, place 20 st on holder, place rem 22 st on holder to be worked later.
At neck edge, dec 1 st every other row 4 times (18 st).
Work until 9½" or same as front.
Starting at armhole edge, BO 9 st, work back, BO rem sts.
. Work 22 st on holder in the same manner.

Crew-Neck Band

Sew right shoulder together.
With smaller needles, knit stitches from back holder. Pick up stitches along neckline to the st on the front holder, and k those st. Continue picking up stitches along other side of neckline. Please see Picking Up Stitches For Necklines And Armholes for more information.
Rib k1p1 1". BO loosely in pattern.

Finishing

Sew other shoulder seam. Sew in sleeves. Seam sleeve and side seams. Weave in ends on WS.
