Garter Stitch Side To Side Poncho Knitting Pattern

This easy two rectangle garter stitch poncho is knit from side to side. Great pattern for beginners!

Gauge:
9¾ sts and 20 rows=4" in garter stitch (knit every row) with Musique

Sizes:
Finished size Approximately 38 (43)" wide from point to point and 36 (40)" long from shoulder to bottom point.
Fits average shorter women and older children (taller women)

Materials:
Size 11 US (8 mm) 26" circular needles or longer or size needed to obtain gauge
15 (15) balls Crystal Palace Yarns Musique
Color #9363 Stormy Weather
45% acrylic/40% wool/15% cotton
100 grams/130 yards

2 (2) balls Crystal Palace Yarns Fizz
Color #9401 Kelim
120 yards/50 grams
100% polyester

Garter Stitch Side To Side Poncho Knitting Pattern

Instructions
Note: Poncho is made from side to side, beginning at one point and ending at the other.

Make 2.

With Musique, CO 3 sts.
Mark inc row with safety pin to assist in remembering which row you are on.
Row 1: K3 (For one piece this is the RS, for the other this is the WS.)
Row 2: K into front and back of first st, k1, k into front and back of last st- 5 sts
Row 3: K
Row 4: k1, k into front and back of next st, k1, k into front and back of next st, k1 - 7 sts
Row 5: K
Row 6: k1, k into front and back of next st, k across to last 2 sts, k into front and back of next st, k1- 9 sts
Row 7: K
Rep last 2 rows until there are 71 (81) sts.

At the same time, when you have 35 (35) sts, k the next row. Cont in pat, work the next 8 rows with one strand of Musique and Fizz held together.

When you have 47 (65) sts, k the next row. Cont in pat, work the next 2 rows with one strand of Musique and Fizz held together.

When you have 61 (75) sts, k the next row. Cont in pat, work the next 6 rows with one strand of Musique and Fizz held together.

Shape Shoulder
Next row 71 (81) sts:
Row 1: k across to last 2 sts, k into front and back of next st, k1
Row 2: K
Rep these 2 rows a total of 8 times - 79 (89) sts

Neck Shaping
Row 1: k1, SSK, k across to last 2 sts, k into front and back of next st, k1
Row 2: K
Rep these 2 rows a total of 8 times - 79 (89) sts

Shape Other Side Of Neck/Beg Dec Side Of Poncho
Work the first two rows with one strand of Musique and Fizz held together.
Row 1: k1, k into front and back of next st, k to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1
Row 2: K
Rep these 2 rows a total of 8 times - 79 (89) sts

Shape Other Shoulder/Cont Dec Side of Poncho
Work the first four rows with one strand of Musique and Fizz held together.
Row 1: k to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1
Row 2: K
Rep these 2 rows a total of 8 times - 71 (81) sts

Dec Both Sides Of Poncho
Row 1: k1, SSK, k to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1
Row 2: K
Rep these 2 rows until you have 5 sts.
Next row: SSK, k1, k2tog

At the same time, when you have 57 (67) sts, k the next row. Cont in pat, work the next 8 rows with one strand of Musique and Fizz held together.

When you have 29 (29) sts, k the next row. Cont in pat, work the next 4 rows with one strand of Musique and Fizz held together.

Finishing
With WS tog, seam from neck to point on each side. Weave in ends on WS.
