K2 P2 Rib Socks Knitting Pattern

Designed by Barbara Breiter

K2 P2 Rib Socks Knitting Pattern

This sock pattern fits women. It features a k2, p2 rib pattern for the leg and foot which helps the socks to stay up. The ribbed band at the top of the sock is bigger and then decreases slightly affording a better fit.

Gauge:
28 sts=4" in St st

Materials:
Size 3 US (3.25 mm) set of 5 double pointed needles
Blunt eyed needle
2 skeins Fortissima Cotton Colori (Schoeller Esslinger/Skacel)-color 02
50 grams/1.75 ounces
210 meters/230 yards
Buy 3 skeins of the same dye lot and you can make two pairs of socks. One pair requires less than 1½ skeins.

Instructions
Pattern Stitch: 2x2 Rib (multiple of 4)
Rnd 1: *k2, p2; rep from *
Rep this rnd.

CO 64 sts. Join, being careful not to twist sts. Divide stitches over 4 needles (16, 16, 16, 16). Work k1, p1 rib (k1, p1 repeated around) for approximately 2½ inches. Dec 8 sts evenly (two on each needle) over the next rnd. Beginning with Needle 1 (14, 14, 14, 14), beg Pattern Stitch and work until 8" or desired length. End with work completed on Needles 1-3.

Heel Flap
Place sts from Needle 4 on to Needle 1. Heel flap is worked in rows on 28 sts.
Row 1: *Slip 1, k1; repeat across from *
Row 2: Slip 1, purl across

Rep these 2 rows 30 times or 2¾". Heel flap shape should be close to square. End with a purl row completed.

Turn Heel
Row 1: Sl 1, K14, K2tog, K1 turn
Row 2: Sl 1, P4, P2tog, P1, turn
Row 3: Sl 1, K5, K2tog, K1, turn
Row 4: Sl 1, P6, P2tog, P1, turn
Cont in this manner until all stitches are worked.

Gusset
Knit across heel sts. Pick up 15 sts along side of heel flap. Knit in pat st across Needles 2 and 3. Pick up 15 sts along other side of heel. Place half of heel sts on Needles 1 and 4. Knit to end of round.
You should have (23, 14, 14, 23) sts on Needles 1-4 respectively.

Gusset Decrease and Sock Foot
Rnd 1:
Needle 1: Knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1.
Needle 2 and 3: Work in Pattern Stitch around.
Needle 4: K1, SSK, knit around.
Rnd 2: Work in pattern around (St st on Needles 1 & 4, Pattern Stitch on Needles 2 & 3).
Rep these 2 rnds until total sts equal 56 (14, 14, 14, 14).
Cont knitting in St st on Needles 1 & 4 and in Pattern Stitch on Needles 2 & 3 until you are approximately 1½-2 inches from the top of your longest toe (approximately 7-8 inches).

Shape Toe
Rnd 1:
Needle 1: Knit to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1
Needle 2: K1, SSK, knit around.
Needle 3: Knit to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1
Needle 4: K1, SSK, knit around.
