Easy Beginner Sock Pattern

Lopi Socks

I usually make mine colorful. I have used hunter green and rust and beige for a pair. I stripe the cuff and toes. I have also made a blue pair with a matching red for the cuff and stripes on the heel and toes. These socks make great turn down cuff socks!

Size:
Women's Medium
Finished length 9½"

Gauge:
20 sts and 28 rows=4 inches

Materials:
Size 6 US (4.25 mm) double points, set of 4
2 skeins Lite Lopi
50 grams/109 yards

Instructions
CO 40 sts loosely.
Divide 13 sts on to first 2 needles and 14 sts on to third needle.
Join. Mark beg of rnd.
Work cuff in k2, p2 ribbing for 6 inches.
Knit in St st for 1 inch.

Heel Flap
Divide sts 10 sts on needle 1, 20 sts on needle 2, and 10 sts on needle 3. Place sts from needles 1 and 3 on one needle. Leave rem 20 sts on needle or holder for instep sts.

Row 1: Sl 1, P to end of row.
Row 2: Sl 1, K to end of row.
Repeat last 2 rows until heel measures 2 inches, ending on a 2nd row.

Turn Heel
Row 1: P13, p2tog, p1, turn.
Row 2: Sl 1, k7, sl 1, k1, psso, k1, turn.
Row 3: Sl 1, p8, p2tog, p1, turn.
Row 4: Sl 1, k9, sl 1, k1, psso, k1, turn.
Row 5: Sl 1, p10, p2tog, p1, turn.
Row 6: S1 1, k 11, sl 1, k1, psso, k1, turn - 14 sts

Gussets
With RS facing, pick up 10 sts on left side of heel.
With 2nd needle, knit across 20 sts on instep.
With 3rd needle, pick up 10 sts along right side of heel.
Knit first 7 stitches from heel onto 3rd needle.
Slip rem 7 stitches from heel onto beg of first needle (54 sts, 17/20/17).

Cont as follows:
Rnd 1:
1st needle: Knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1.
2nd needle: Knit.
3rd needle: K1, sl 1, k1, psso, knit to end of needle.

Rnd 2: Knit.

Repeat last 2 rnds to 40 sts (10/20/10).
Cont even for 6½ inches measured from side of heel or to fit your foot- try it on!

Toe
Rnd 1:
1st needle: Knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1.
2nd needle: K1, sl 1, k1, psso, k to last 3 st, k2tog, k1.
3rd needle: K1, sl 1, k1, psso, k to end of needle.

Rnd 2: Knit.

Rep last 2 rnds until 20 sts rem.
Knit sts from 1st needle on to 3rd.
Graft toes with kitchener stitch.
