Easter Chick Slipper Booties Knitting Pattern

These are adorable slipper booties for babies and toddlers...looks just like an Easter Chick. And they are super easy to knit too!

Size:
To fit age 1-2 (2-3) years

Gauge:
23 sts and 48 rows = 4" (10 cm) in garter stitch

Materials:
Size 5 US (3.75 mm) needles
1 ball Patons Diploma Double Gold
55% Wool, 25% Acrylic, 20% Nylon
131 yards (120 meters)/50 grams
Orange and blue felt

Instructions
Note: Slip all sts as if to knit.
CO 20 (26) sts.
Row 1 (WS): Sl 1, K8 (11), P2, K9 (12)
Row 2: Sl 1, K9 (12), M2 (by picking up horizontal loop lying before next st and working into back and front of it) 1 (0) times, M1 (by picking up horizontal loop lying before next st and working into back of it) 0 (1) times, K10 (13) - 22 (27) sts
Row 3: Sl 1, K8 (11), P1, 2 (1), P1, K9 (12)
Row 4: Sl 1, K9 (12), M1, K2 (1), M1, K10 (13) - 24 (29) sts
Row 5: Sl 1, K8 (11), P1, K4 (3), P1, K9 (12)
Row 6: Sl 1, K9 (12), M1, K4 (3), M1, K10 (13) - 26 (31) sts

Rep last 2 rows until slipper meas 2½ (3)" [6.5 (7.5) cm], ending with WS facing for next row.
Next Row (WS): Sl 1, [M1, K3] 2 (3) times, M1, K2, P1, [K2, M1] 3 (4) times, K2 (3), P1, K2, [M1, K3] 2 (3) times, M1, K1 - 37 (49) sts
Ribbing
Next Row: K1, *P1, K1; rep from * to end.
Next Row: P1, *K1, P1; rep from * to end.
Rep last 2 rows until slipper meas 4½ (5½)" [11.5 (14) cm], ending with RS facing for next row.
Note: Rib by knitting the knits and purling the purls as they face you.
Next Row (RS): K1, K2tog 5 (7) times, rib 3, K2tog 1 (2) times, rib 5, K2tog 1 (2) times, rib 3, K2tog 5 (7) times, K1 - 25 (31) sts
Next Row: Rib 1 (2), P2tog 3 (4) times, rib 1, P2tog twice, rib 1, P2tog twice, rib 1, P2tog 3 (4) times, rib 1 (2) - 15 (19) sts
Next Row: K2tog 3 (2) times, K3tog 1 (3) times, K2tog 3 times.
Break yarn and thread through rem 7 (8) sts. Pull up tight and fasten off securely.

Finishing
Sew top of foot seam from fasten off point to beg of ribbing. Sew heel (cast on edge) seam.
Make two 1½" (4 cm) diameter pompons and attach to top of foot.
For each slipper, cut 2 beak shapes from orange felt, and 2 tiny circles for eyes from blue felt. Attach to pompons to form facial features.
