Shell Stitch And Eyelets Shawl Knitting Pattern

Shawl Knitting Pattern This lovely collared shawl features eyelets and shells in a very unique design.

3.5 sts=1 inch in St st

Materials:
Size 10½ (6.5 mm) 36" circular needle
Size 11 (8 mm) straight needles
5 stitch markers
11 balls Cameo by Crystal Palace Yarns
Color #0215 Rose Dust
77 yds/50 grams
80% merino wool/20% nylon

Instructions:
Note: the last stitch on every row will be slipped purlwise with yarn in front

CO 8 sts.

Row 1: K2, yo, K1, yo, K1, place center marker, K1, yo, K1, yo, K1, slip 1 wyif
Row 2: K to last st, slip 1 wyif
Row 3: K2, yo, K to 1 st before center marker, yo, K1, slip marker, K1, yo, K to 2 sts before end, yo, K1, sl 1
Row 4: K to last st, sl 1

Repeat Rows 3 and 4 until there are 80 sts on each side of center marker. End by working Row 4. Mark Row 4 as a RS row.

Shawl Knitting Pattern Begin Eyelet Pattern

Row 1: k2, yo, k1, *yo, K2 tog* to 1 st before center marker, yo, K1, sl marker, K1, yo, *K2 tog, yo* to last 3 sts, K1, yo, K1, sl 1
Row 2: K to last st, sl 1
Row 3: K2, yo, K to 1 st before center marker, yo, K1, slip marker, K1, yo, K to 2 sts before end, yo, K1, sl 1
Row 4: K to last st, sl 1
Rows 5-10: Repeat Rows 3 and 4 until there are 90 sts on each side of marker. End by working Row 4 (this is the new Row 10).

Repeat last 10 rows until there are 110 sts on each side of center marker.

Repeat rows 1-4 once more. 114 sts each side of center marker.
Preparation row for shell pattern border

Next row: K2, yo, place pattern marker, K to 1 st before center marker, place pattern marker, yo, K1, slip center marker, K1, yo, place pattern marker, K to 2 sts before end, place pattern marker, yo, K1, sl 1-116 sts before and after center marker, counting the yo as a stitch. It will be helpful to place a string on center marker. This is a WS row.

Begin Shell Pattern

Row 1: K to pattern marker, *K2, (yo, K8, yo, K1) rep bet ( ) to 1 st before pattern marker, K1,* sl marker, K to next pattern marker, rep between * to last pattern marker, K to last st, sl 1.
Row 2: K2, yo, K to pattern marker, *K3, (P8, K3)* to pattern marker, K to 1 st before center marker, yo, K1, sl marker, K1, yo, K to pattern marker, rep between * to last pattern marker, K to 2 sts before end, yo, K1, sl 1.
Row 3: K to pattern marker, *K3, (yo, K8, yo, K3) to pattern marker, K to next pattern marker, rep from * to last pattern marker, K to last st, sl 1.
Row 4: K2, yo, K to pattern marker, *K4, (P8, K5) end last rep K4 instead of K5,* sl pattern marker, K to 1 st before center marker, yo, K1, sl marker, K1, yo, rep between * to last pattern marker, K to last 2 sts, yo, K1, sl 1.
Row 5: K to pattern marker, *K4, (yo, K8, yo, K5), end last rep K4 instead of K5*, sl pattern marker, K to next pattern marker, rep between * to last pattern marker, K to last st, sl 1.
Row 6: k2, yo, K to pattern marker, *K5, (P8, K7), end last rep K5 instead of K7*, K to 1 st before center marker, yo, K1, sl marker, K1, yo, rep between * to last marker, K to 2 sts before end, yo, K1, sl 1.
Row 7: K to pattern marker, *K5, (K4 tog tbl, K4 tog, K7), end last rep K5 instead of K7,* K to next pattern marker, rep between * to last pattern marker, K to last st, sl 1.
Row 8: K2, yo, K to pattern marker, K to 1 st before center marker, yo, K1, sl marker, K1, yo, K to last 2 sts, yo, K1, sl 1.
Row 9-14: Repeat rows 1-6.
Row 15: Repeat row 7 but remove pattern markers (leave center marker in place). The pattern markers will be re-set on row 16. 130 sts each side of center marker.
Row 16: K2, yo, place pattern marker, increase in next st, K to 2 sts before center marker, increase in next st, place pattern marker, yo, K1, sl center marker, K1, yo, place pattern marker, increase in next st, K to 3 sts before end, increase in next st, place pattern marker, yo K1 sl 1. 134 sts each side of center marker.
Repeat rows 1-16 once more. 152 sts each side of center marker.
Repeat rows 1-16 again. 160 sts each side of center marker.
It is not necessary to replace pattern markers in last row.

Shawl Knitting Pattern For a larger shawl, continue repeating Rows 1-16 to desired size. There will be 18 sts increased on each side of center marker with each repeat. Extra yarn will be required.

Finishing
K 6 rows.

I-Cord Bind-Off
Using size 11 straight needles, CO 2 sts, slip back onto left needle. K3. Put these 3 sts back onto left needle. (The yarn will be coming from the back of the 3rd st). K2, K2 tog. Put the 3 sts just knitted back onto left needle. Repeat this process until all sts are bound off.
