This easy poncho can be knit in one color or use multiple colors for stripes in any way you wish.

Size:
Fits children ages 2 to 6

Gauge:
16 sts and 20 rows=4" in St st with larger needles

Materials:
8 ounces worsted weight yarn (use one or as many colors as you wish)
Size 9 US (5.5 mm) 29" circulars
Size 5 US (3.75 mm) 16" circulars or double points

Instructions
With larger needles, CO 84 sts.
Row 1 (RS): *k20, (k1, p1, k1) in next st; rep from * - 92 sts
Row 2: *p1, (p1, k1, p1) in next st, *p22, (p1, k1, p1) in next st; rep from *, end p22 - 100 sts
Rep these last 2 rows, working in St st and increasing in the center st of previous increases.
Cont until poncho is as long as you wish. If the child is available, measure from neck to wrist or waist. The poncho I knit was 14".

Work last six rows in garter stitch (purl one row, knit one row) or seed stitch to prevent edge from rolling. BO. Sew seam.

With smaller circulars or double points and RS facing, pick up 80 sts around neck. Knit 3". BO.

Weave in ends on WS.
