Easy Roll Brim Hat For Kids

Only one ball of yarn is needed for this cute hat! This easy to knit roll brim hat fits kids about ages 3-6; the yarn contains elastic so it will keep it's shape and stretch to fit larger heads. If you knit it for an older child, work an extra inch before beginning the crown decreases; you'll need an extra ball.

Materials:
Size 10½ US (6.5 mm) 16" circular needle or size needed to obtain gauge
Size 10½ US (6.5 mm) double points
Crystal Palace Yarns Meringue
1 ball 9576 Rose Petal
40% merino wool/40% acrylic/20% elastic nylon fibers
50 grams/1.75 ounces
123 yards/114 meters

Gauge:
16 sts and 21 rows=4 inches in St st

Size:
Fits kids aged 3-6. For older children, work an additional inch before crown decreases (you will need an additional ball of yarn)

Easy Roll Brim Hat For Kids

Instructions:
CO 77 sts. Make sure sts aren't twisted. Join and mark beg of rnd. Work in St st (k every rnd) until hat measures 6 inches from beg.

Decrease Crown:
Change to double points when sts no longer fit on circulars.
Round 1: *k5, k2tog; rep from * - 66 sts
Round 2: k
Round 3: *k4, k2tog, rep from * - 55 sts
Round 4: k
Round 5: *k3, k2tog, rep from * - 55 sts
Round 6: k
Round 7: *k2, k2tog, rep from * - 44 sts
Round 8: k
Round 9: *k1, k2tog, rep from * - 22 sts
Round 10: k
Round 11: *k2tog, rep from * - 11 sts
Round 12: k

Cut yarn, leaving long tail. Thread through tapestry needle and thread through each rem st on needle as if to purl, taking sts off needle. Pull tightly to close top of hat. Weave in ends on WS.
