Child's Brim Hat Knitting Pattern

Child's Brim Hat Knitting Pattern

This hat fits toddlers and children and is worked is k1, p1 ribbing so it stretches and fits a wide range of sizes.

Materials:
1 ball Berroco Chinchilla (MC)
1 ball Berroco Chinchilla (CC, used for brim)
1 50 gram skein of sport weight wool to match MC
Size 8 US (5 mm) 16" circulars or size needed to obtain gauge
Size 8 US (5 mm) set of double pointed needles
blunt eyed needle

Gauge:
18 sts = 4" in k1, p1 rib slightly stretched

Instructions
With one strand of wool, using the Cable cast on CO 72 sts.

Change to CC and work k1, p1 rib across row. Cont in k1, p1 ribbing for 1½". On last row, join and place marker for beg of round.

Change to one strand of MC and one strand of wool held together (the brim folds where the colors change). Cont in k1, p1 ribbing until hat measures 5½" from brim fold.

Decrease crown:
Round 1: *k7, k2tog; rep from *
Round 2: *k6, k2tog; rep from *
Round 3: *k5, k2tog; rep from *

Continue in this manner until 8 sts remain. Cut yarn and draw through last sts. Fasten off. Join brim and weave in ends.
