Snowman Ornament Knitting Pattern

Snowman Ornament

Size:
Approx 6" (15 cm) tall and 2½" (6 cm) wide

Gauge:
Not vital

Materials:
Worsted weight yarn in white, black, green, yellow and red
Size 6 US (4.25 mm) double pointed needles-set of 4
Size 6 US (4.25 mm) straight needles
Crochet hook (optional)
Tapestry needle
Q-tip
Cotton balls or fiberfill stuffing

Instructions
With double points, you'll knit a tube starting from feet, decrease for the neck, and then increase for the head. Hat and scarf are knit separately.

Body
With black and double pointed needles, CO 24 sts. Divide equally over 3 needles.
Knit 3 rounds.
Change to white and knit 21 rounds.
Dec as follows for neck:
Next round: *k1, k2tog; rep from * - 16 sts
Next round: *k1, k2tog; rep from * to last st, k1 - 11 sts
Inc as follows for head:
Next round: *k1, k in front and back of next st; rep from * to last st, k1 - 16 sts
Next round: *k1, k in front and back of next st; rep from * - 24 sts
Knit 11 rounds.
Next round: *k1, k2tog; rep from * - 16 sts
Next round: k2tog around - 8 sts
Next round: k2tog around - 4 sts
Next round: k2tog around - 2 sts
K2tog. Fasten off.
Finishing
With black, embroider eyes, buttons and hands.
With red, embroider a mouth.
Fill the body and head with cotton balls or fiberfill stuffing. Seam at the bottom.

Hat
With black and straight needles, CO 8 sts.
Row 1: K5, inc in next 2 sts, k1 - 10 sts
Row 2: P3, k7
Row 3: K10
Rep Rows 2 and 3 20 more times (total of 11 garter stitch ridges). BO.
Seam the edge in the shape of a hat. Sew to the top of snowman's head.

Scarf
With green, CO 3 sts. Work I-Cord as long as you like.

Broom
Pull off the cotton from both ends of a Q-tip. With yellow, make a tassel. Trim ends to length desired and attach to the Q-tip. Attach the broom to the snowman's body.

Crochet a chain with white yarn or make a loop and attach to snowman's head to hang.
