Knitting Pattern For Hat With Christmas Ornament Top
Knit by Sarah Bradberry from a free knitting pattern located here.
Materials:
16" circular needle and dpns in desired size for yarn (I used a size
6 for 1 and a size 7. You could go up to a size 9 with worsted weight
yarn)
100-150 yards of yarn in main color
10-15 yards of yarn in a metallic for the top of the ornament
Pattern:
Cast on 81 stitches. Join without twisting. Knit in stockinette
until desired length (6-7" for a child)
Begin decreases (decreasing 9 stitches every decrease row) switching
to dpns when necessary.
Row 1: *knit 7, K2tog* repeat around
Row 2: K
Row 3: *Knit 6, K2tog* repeat
Row 4: K
Row 5: *Knit 5, K2tog*
Row 6: K
Row 7: * Knit 4, k2tog*
Row 8-10: K
Row 11 (begin color pattern): K2 MC, *K1 metallic, K4 MC*
repeat, ending with K2 MC
Row 12: same as Row 9
Row 13-14: K1 MC, *K3 metallic, K2 MC* repeat, ending K1 MC
Row 15-16: K with metallic (you're done with the MC)
Row 17 (turning row): Purl with metallic
Row 18: K with metallic
Begin crown decreases:
Row 19: *K3, K2tog*
Row 20: *K2, K2tog*
Row 21: *K1, K2tog*
Row 22: *K2tog*
Fasten off by running yarn through the live stitches.
Crochet a "hanging loop" and attach to the top.
