Miniature Hats Christmas Ornaments

Materials:
Worsted weight yarn
Size 6 US (4 mm) needles
These are knit on double pointed needles but you can use straight needles for these miniature hat patterns as well.

Instructions
Basic Hat
If desired, knit the ribbing and pom-pom in a contrasting color (CC) and the rest of the hat in the main color (MC).
CO 28 sts.
Work in K1, P1 ribbing 8 rows.
Change to St st and work 14 rows.
Dec as follows:
Row 1: K2tog across - 14 sts
Rows 2 and 4: Knit if knitting in the round, purl if knitting back and forth
Row 3: Rep Row 1 - 7 sts
Row 5: (K2tog) 3 times, end k1 - 4 sts
Cut yarn and thread through 4 sts. Pull tightly to close top of hat.
Sew seam if knitting back and forth. Fold ribbing up.
Add 1" pom-pom, a small tassel, or a jingle bell.

Variations
Two Color Fair Isle Hat
Knitting in the round, after the ribbing, work 1 row MC.
Row 2: *K1 MC, K1 CC; rep from * across
Rows 3, 4, 6 and 7: With MC, k
Row 5: *K1 CC, K1 MC; rep from * across
Rep Rows 2 through 7 once.
Rep Row 2.
Work decreases as for Basic Hat in MC.

Two Color Slip Stitch Hat
Make adjustments for working in St st if knitting back and forth.
After the ribbing, work 2 rows MC.
Rows 3, 7 and 11: With CC, k
Rows 4 and 12: With MC, (K1, sl 1) across
Rows 5, 6, 9, 10, 13 and 14: With MC, k
Row 8: With MC, (sl 1, K1) across.
Work decreases as for Basic Hat in MC.

Striped Hat
Change colors every row or every other row.

Santa Claus Hat
Using white for the ribbing and red for MC, work as for Basic Hat until the decreases, then work decreases as follows:
Row 1: *K5, k2tog; rep from * across - 24 sts
Row 2 and all even rows: Knit if knitting in the round, purl if knitting back and forth
Row 3: *K4, k2tog; rep from * across - 20 sts
Row 5: *K3, k2tog; rep from * across - 16 sts
Row 7: *K2, k2tog; rep from * across - 12 sts
Row 9: *K1, k2tog; rep from * across - 8 sts
Row 11: K2tog across - 4 sts.

Aran Hat
Seed Stitch
Row 1: *K1, p1; rep from *
Row 2: Knit the purl sts and purl the knit sts as they face you.
Rep these 2 rows for pattern.
Twist Stitch:
Row 1: Knit into second st on needle. Do not remove. Knit into first st on needle. Remove both sts.
Rows 2 and 4: K if working in the round, purl if working back and forth
Row 3: Knit
Rep these 4 rows for pattern.
Twisted Rib:
Row 1: K1 in back loop, p1; rep from *
Row 2: K1 in back loop in knit sts and purl the purl sts as they face you.
Work ribbing in Twisted Rib.
Inc 2 sts on last row - 30 sts
Set up pattern:
*p1, 6 sts Seed Stitch, p1, 2 sts Twist Stitch; rep from * across
Work 14 rounds. If knitting back and forth, knit the p1 sts every other row.
Work decreases as for Basic Hat.

Helix Hat
Knit this hat in any three colors in the round.
With Color A, work ribbing.
With Color A, k14, with Color B, k14, with Color C, k14. Continue in this manner until you have knit 15 rounds. Work a complete round with Color A.
Work decreases as for Basic hat.
