Barbie Halloween Witch

Materials:
Black worsted weight or sport weight yarn
Orange worsted weight or sport weight yarn
Size 4 US (3.5 mm) straight needles
Size 4 US (3.5 mm) double point needles
One straw

Gauge:
20 sts and 24 rows=4 inches
Fabric will be rigid.

Hat

Instructions
CO 72 sts with straight needles.
K 6 rows.
K2tog across (36 sts)
Knit across
K2tog across (18 sts)
K 9 rows.
K1, K2tog across (12 sts)
K 9 rows.
K1, K2tog across (8 sts)
K 7 rows.
K2tog, K1 across (5 sts)
K2tog, K1, K2
K3tog

Draw yarn through last st.
Sew up seam.

Broomstick

Instructions
CO 5 sts on double points.
Make an I-Cord the length of a straw.
Before tightening up the strip, insert straw through back loop. Pull on ends to tighten.
Sew up ends.
Make tassel with several strands of yarn and fasten to end of broom stick.

Dress

Instructions
CO 92 sts.
K 4 rows.
K2tog across (46 sts)
Knit across
K2tog across (23 sts)
Purl across

Continue in st st (K 1 row, P 1 row) until 6½" in length.

Waist
If you want a smaller waist use smaller needles (size 2) for 2 rows, but the dress fits snugly anyway.

Bodice
Row 1: K5, inc in next st, K11, inc in next st, K5 (25 sts)
Rows 2, 4, 6 and 10: Purl
Row 3: K5, inc in next st, K13, inc in next st, K5 (27 sts)
Row 5: K5, inc in next st, K15, inc in next st, K5 (29 sts)
Rows 7 and 9: Knit

Armholes
Row 1: K2, K2tog, K2. Turn, leaving 23 sts on needle.
Row 2: K2, P2, K1
Row 3: K5

Repeat last 2 rows 4 times.

Next Row: K2, P2, K1
BO.

With RS facing, join yarn to remaining 23 sts.
K2, K2tog, K9, K2tog, K2.
Turn leaving remaining 6 sts.

Front
Row 1: K2, P11, K2 (15 sts) Row 2: K2, K2tog, K7, K2tog, K2 (13 sts)

Neck Shaping
Row 1: K2, P4, BO 1 st, P4, K2. Now work on these 6 sts.
Row 2: K2, K2tog, K2
Row 3: K1, P2, K2
Row 4: K5

Rep last 2 rows twice more.
Next Row: K1, P2, K2
Cast off.

With RS facing, join yarn to remaining sts of front neck.
Row 1: K2, K2tog, K2
Row 2: K2, P2, K1
Row 3: K5

Rep last 2 rows twice more.
Next Row: K2, P2, K1
BO.

With RS facing, join yarn to remaining 6 sts.
Row 1: K2, K2tog, K2
Row 2: K1, P2, K2
Row 3: K5

Rep last 2 rows 4 times more.
Next Row: K1, P2, K2
BO.

Sleeves
Before sewing up back seam, pick up 15 sts along each armhole edge.
Next Row: Inc 1 st in every st (30 sts)
K 4 rows.
BO.

Finishing
Sew up back seam to waist.
Sew shoulder seams including top of sleeve.
Single crochet all around neck edge, beginning at back waist all the way round to waist again. Use contrast color if desired.

Alternative: Skirt With Orange Stripes
Alternate 4 rows of black with 2 rows of orange.
When you start the orange rows, K1, Sl across and purl back.
In the next black row, Sl, K1 across. Then continue with 3 more black rows until you reach the next orange row.
The sleeves can be made any way you like after picking up the stitches.
