Skull Hat Knitting Pattern For Service Members

Skull Hat Knitting Pattern

Materials:
1 skein black worsted weight yarn
Size 4 US (3.5 mm) 16" circulars
Size 6 US (4.25 mm) 16" circulars
Size 6 US (4.25 mm) double points Weaving needle

Gauge:
5 sts and 8 rounds=1 inch in St st

Instructions:

On smaller needles, CO 84 sts. Place marker and join.
Work in k1, p1 rib for two inches.
Switch to St st (knit every round) and larger needles. Knit for 4.5 more inches. (Total piece will measure 6.5 inches.)

Shape Crown:
Switch to double points when sts no longer fit on circulars.
Rnd 1: *Slip 1 as if to knit, k1, PSSO (pass slipped stitch over), k8, k2tog, k2; rep from * - 72 sts
Rnds 2 and 3: K
Rnd 4: *Slip 1, k1, PSSO, k6, k2tog, k2; rep from * - 60 sts
Rnds 5 and 6: K
Rnd 7: *Slip 1, k1, PSSO, k4, k2tog, k2; rep from * - 48 sts
Rnds 8 and 9: K
Rnd 10: *Slip 1, k1, PSSO, k2, k2tog, k2; rep from * - 36 sts
Rnds 11 and 12: K
Rnd 13: *Slip 1, k1, PSSO, k2tog, k2; rep from * - 24 sts
Rnds 14 and 15: K
Rnd 16: *Slip 1, k1, PSSO, k2tog; rep from * - 12 sts

Finishing:

With 12 sts left on needles, break yarn, leaving an 8 inch tail. Thread needle with yarn tail and run through the remaining 12 sts and pull tight, closing the crown. Weave in your ends and toss it at your favorite service man (or woman).
