Skater Boy Hat

Skater Boy Hat

This is an easy knitting pattern I designed and knit for a young skate boarding friend.

Gauge:
4 sts=1" in St st

Needles:
Size 9 (US) 16" or 20" circulars and size 9 double points

Yarn:
MC-1 skein Lion Brand Cotton-Ease (Licorice-color 153)
50% cotton/50% acrylic
3.5 ounces/207 yards
CC-Small amount of worsted weight boucle for contrast and texture such as Cascade Leisure, K1C2 BonBon, or Bernat Soft Boucle in red or color of your choice.

Size:
Circumference equals 20". Fits large child or small adult head.

Instructions:

With circular needle and MC, CO 96 sts. Join, being careful not to twist sts. Work in garter st for 6 rows (k 1 row, p 1 row)
Dec 16 sts evenly as follows (80 sts):
k4, k2tog across

K 6 rows, p 1 row.
With CC, k 1 row, p 1 row.
With MC, k 7 rows, p 1 row.
With CC, k 1 row, p 1 row.
With MC, k 7 rows, p 1 row.
With CC, k 1 row, p 1 row.

Hat should measure approximately 6.5" from beg.

With MC, begin dec and change to double points when sts no longer fit on needle:

Row 1: *k3, k2tog; rep from *
Row 2: k
Row 3: *k2, k2tog; rep from *
Row 4: k
Row 5: *k1, k2tog; rep from *
Row 6: k
Row 7: k2tog across row
Row 8: k
Row 9: k2tog across row

Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. With tapestry needle, thread tail through remaining sts and pull tightly to close top of hat. Weave in loose ends.
