Poof Hat Knitting Pattern

This hat pattern features a fold up ribbed brim and a larger circumference around the body of the hat that poofs out.

Size:
Fits most adults

Gauge:
17 sts and 24 rows = 4" in St st

Materials:
Note: If you desire a tighter ribbing, use needles one or two sizes smaller.
Size 10 US (6 mm) 16" or 20" circular needle
Size 10 US (6 mm) double pointed needles
1 ball Mochi Plus Solid by Crystal Palace Yarns 1504 Deep Loden (Color A)
1 ball Mochi Plus by Crystal Palace Yarns 604 Bodega Bay (Color B)
80% Merino Wool/20% Nylon
50 grams/1.75 ounces
95 yards/87 meters

Poof Hat Knitting Pattern

Instructions
K2, p2 Rib
Rnd 1:
*K2, p2; rep from * around.
Rep Rnd 1.

Hat
With circular needle and A, CO 84 sts.
Join, making sure sts aren't twisted. Place marker for beg of rnd. Work in K2, p2 Rib until piece measures 5½".
Change to B. Knit 1 rnd.
Inc Rnd: *k3, k into front and back of next st; rep from * - 105 sts
Work even in St st (k every rnd) until piece measures 8½" from beg.
Shape Crown
Note:
Change to double pointed needles when sts no longer fit on circulars.
Rnd 1: *k4, k2tog; rep from * to last sts, k3 - 88 sts
Rnd 2 and all even rnds: K
Rnd 3: *k9, k2tog; rep from * around - 80 sts
Rnd 5: *k8, k2tog; rep from * around - 72 sts
Rnd 7: *k7, k2tog; rep from * around - 64 sts
Rnd 9: *k6, k2tog; rep from * around - 56 sts
Rnd 11: *k5, k2tog; rep from * around - 48 sts
Rnd 13: *k4, k2tog; rep from * around - 40 sts
Rnd 15: *k3, k2tog; rep from * around - 32 sts
Rnd 17: *k2, k2tog; rep from * around - 24 sts
Rnd 19: *k1, k2tog; rep from * around - 16 sts
Rnd 21: *k2tog around - 8 sts

Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. With blunt needle, thread tail through remaining sts and pull tightly to close top of hat.

Finishing
Weave in ends. Fold brim up in half.
