Caren Weiner Campbell

Tear Drop Hat Knitting Pattern

Knit by Carole Schmidt

This tear drop shaped hat fits women.

Materials:
Size 6 US (4.25 mm) 16 " circular needles
Size 7 US (4.5 mm) double points-set of 5
Worsted weight yarn

Gauge:
20 sts and 24 rows =4 inches in St st with larger needles

Instructions
Because I am a lefty, I have a pet peeve about standard directions. As a result, here's a very brief glossary of decreases used here:

Rightward Decrease (RD):
Lefties: sl1, k1, psso
Righties: k2tog

Leftward Decrease (LD):
Lefties: k2tog
Righties: sl1, k1, psso

With smaller needles, CO 106 st.
Work k1, p1 ribbing for 1½".
K next rnd, inc 6 sts (after every 17th or 18th st).
Change to larger needles.

Rnds 1-3: (P1, K12, P1) 8 times
Rnd 4: (P1, K12, P into front and back of next st) 8 times
Rnds 5-7: (P1, K12, P2) 8 times
Rnd 8: (P1, K12, P1, P into front and back of next st) 8 times
Rnds 9-11: (P1, K12, P3) 8 times
Rnd 12: (P1, K12, P1, P into front and back of next st, P1) 8 times
Rnds 13-15: (P1, K12, P4) 8 times
Rnd 16: (P1, K12, P1, P into front and back of next st, P2) 8 times
Rnds 17-19: (P1, K12, P5) 8 times
Rnd 20: (P1, K12, P2, P into front and back of next st, P2) 8 times
Rnds 21-23: (P1, K12, P6) 8 times
Rnd 24: (P1, K12, P3, P into front and back of next st, P2) 8 times
Rnds 25-27: (P1, K12, P7) 8 times
