Chemo Cap Knitting Pattern

Designed by Rita Gaudiello

Chemo Cap Knitting Pattern

I call them Hope Hats because when your hair falls out during treatment, you hope it will grow back. I've knit 50 of them for The Johns Hopkins Cancer Center. They fit adult women.

Materials:
Size 13 US (9 mm) circular needles, 16" in length or size needed to obtain gauge
Tapestry needle
Smooth, worsted weight yarn
Eyelash yarn

Gauge:
About 2 sts=1" with one strand of worsted weight and one strand of eyelash yarn held together. Hat is stretchy so exact gauge isn't vital.

Instructions:

With two strands of worsted weight yarn held together, CO 40 sts. Join, being careful sts aren't twisted.

Rnd 1: K
Rnds 2-11: *k2, p2; rep from * around
Drop one strand of worsted weight yarn. Add one strand of eyelash yarn. Cont with one strand of worsted weight and one strand of eyelash yarn.
Rnds 12-26: K
Rnd 27: *k2, k2tog; rep from * around-30 sts
Rnds 28-32: K

Finishing
Cut both yarns. Using a tapestry needle, thread through each of the rem sts. Pull tight. Weave in ends on WS.
