Candy Cane Hat Knitting Pattern Easy to knit hat, striped like a candy cane, and sized for children and adults.

Sizes:
Child (Adult) 14 (20)" in circumference and approx 13 (16)" tall with cuff turned up and excluding pom-pom.
Pattern is written for child size with changes for adult size in parentheses.

Gauge:
20 sts = 4" in St st with larger needles

Needles for Child Size:
Size 5 US (3.75 mm) double pointed needles
Size 7 US (4.5 mm) double pointed needles
Needles for Adult Size:
Size 5 US (3.75 mm) 16" circular needles
Size 7 US (4.5 mm) 16" circular needles
Size 7 US (4.5 mm) double pointed needles
Plus Solid by Crystal Palace Yarns
1 ball 1500 Natural Ecru (CC)
1 ball 1501 Intense Red (MC)
80% Merino Wool/20% Nylon

Instructions
With CC and smaller double pointed (circular) needle, CO 72 (99) sts. Join and work k1, p1 rib (*k1, p1; rep from * around) for 4". Change to larger double pointed (circular) needle.
Main Body of Hat
With MC, knit 7 rnds.
Knit 1 rnd in CC.
Knit 7 rnds in MC.

Begin Decreases
Note: If knitting larger size, change to double pointed needles when circumference becomes too narrow for circulars.
Dec Rnd: With CC, *K6 (9), k2 tog; rep from * to end of rnd.
Knit 7 rnds in MC.
Dec Rnd: With CC, *K5 (8), k2tog; rep from * to end of rnd.
Knit 7 rnds in MC.
Dec Rnd: With CC, *K4 (7), k2tog; rep from * to end of rnd.
Knit 7 rnds in MC.
Dec Rnd: With CC, *K3 (6), k2tog; rep from * to end of rnd.
Knit 7 rnds in MC.
Dec Rnd: With CC, *K2 (5), k2tog; rep from * to end of rnd.
Knit 7 rnds in MC.
Dec Rnd: With CC, *K1 (4), k2tog; rep from * to end of rnd.
Knit 7 rnds in MC.
Dec Rnd: With CC, K0 (3), k2tog; rep from * to end of rnd.

Finishing
Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. With tapestry needle, thread tail through remaining sts and pull tightly to close top of hat.
Pom-pom
Wind CC around 3 fingers to desired thickness, or use pom-pom maker.
Tie center tightly and trim. Sew to top of hat. Weave in all ends.
