Stuffed Animal Sweater Knitting PatternCarole BarenysTo fit smaller animals, heavy sport weight/light worsted weight yarn Size 4 US (3.5 mm) double points Size 6 US (4.25 mm) double points To fit larger animals, worsted weight yarn Size 6 US (4.25 mm) double points Size 8 US (5.00 mm) double points Instructions Collar CO 48 sts with smaller needles. Join. Work in K1, P1 or K2, P2 ribbing for 5 rounds. P 1 round for decorative ridge and, at the same time, place markers: after 16 sts (back), 8 sts (sleeve), 16 sts (front), 8 sts (second sleeve) Body Change to larger needles. Increase round: *K to within 2 sts of marker, inc in next st, K 1, pass marker, inc in next st; rep from * 3 more times. (8 sts added) K 1 round even. Repeat these two rows until there are 32 sts on front and on back, and 24 sts on each sleeve. Divide body from sleeves K 32 (back), K 24 (sleeve), place these 24 on holder, K 32 (front), K 24 (second sleeve), place 24 on holder. K 32, CO 4 sts at armhole, K 32, CO 4 at second armhole - 72 sts Work even until about ½" short of desired length. (Note: If your critter is one of those skinny under stuffed types, you may do some paired decreases at each side of the 4 underarm stitches. Be sure to leave an amount of sts divisible by 4 if you are using K2 P2 ribbing.) Work 1 round of purl for decorative ridge, and work bottom cuff to match collar, binding off loosely to allow for stretchiness. Sleeve Work 24 sts from holder, pick up 4 sts aloong the cast on underarm - 28 sts. Work even (see note above about customizing) until about ½" short of desired length. Work 1 round of P.
