Hoodie For Babies And Children Knitting Pattern

This hoodie knitting pattern for babies and toddlers uses an easy to knit mosaic stitch pattern. If you wish, you can knit the body and sleeves in stockinette stitch instead, beginning with garter stitch so it doesn't roll.

The pattern uses a machine washable yarn of cut fleece. It's extremely soft and will remind you of your favorite sweatshirt.

Sizes:
Babies 9-12 months (18-24 months)
Finished Chest Measurement 25 (29)"

Gauge:
16 sts and 22 rows=4" with larger needles over Mosaic Pattern Stitch

Materials:
Size 11 (8 mm) straight needles or size needed to obtain gauge
Size 10½ (6.5 mm) 24" or longer circular needles
Puffin by Crystal Palace Yarns
3 (3) balls Color #0207 Pea Pod (Color A)
2 (3) balls Color #0107 Wild Lime (Color B)
100% polyester fleece
50 grams/1.75 ounces

Instructions
Mosaic Pattern Stitch (multiple of 8 + 3)
Slip all sts as if to purl with yarn on the WS
Row 1 (RS): With Color B, k1, *k2, sl 3, k3; rep from *, end k2
Row 2 and all even rows: P the k sts and slip the slip sts from the previous row
Row 3: With Color A, k1, *k1, sl 1, k5, sl 1; rep from *, end k2
Row 5: With Color B, k1, *sl 1, k3, sl 1, k3; rep from *, end sl 1, k1
Row 7: With Color A, k1, *k3, sl 1, k1, sl 1, k2; rep from *, end k2
Row 9: With Color B, k1, *sl 1, k5, sl 2; rep from *, end sl 1, k1
Row 11: With Color A, k1, *k1, sl 1, k1, sl 1, k4; rep from *, end k2
Row 13: With Color B, k1, *k2, sl 1, k3, sl 1, k1; rep from *, end k2
Row 15: With Color A, k1, *k5, sl 1, k1, sl 1; rep from *, end k2

Back
With Color A, CO 51 (58) sts.
K 5 rows.
P 1 row.
Beg Mosaic Pattern Stitch. Work 5 (7)". Mark each side for armholes. Cont for additional 4½ (6)".
BO 17 (17) sts beg next 2 rows. Place rem 17 (24) sts on holder for back of neck.

Front
Same as Back until armhole measures 2 (3½)".
RS: Work 21 (22) sts, place center 9 (14) sts on holder for front of neck, place rem 21 (22) sts on another holder.
Keeping to pat, dec 1 st at neck edge every other row 4 (5) times. Work even until piece measures same as Back. BO.
Place 21 (22) sts from holder back on needle and work as for first side.

Sleeves
With Color A, CO 27 (27) sts.
K 5 rows.
P 1 row.
Beg Mosaic Pattern Stitch. Keeping to pat, inc 1 st each end every 4th row 6 (11) times. Work even until piece measures 6½ (10)" from beg. BO.

Hood
Seam shoulders.
Place first 5 (7) sts from front neck holder on circular needles.
With Color A and RS facing, knit these 5 (7) sts, pick up 12 sts along right neck, k first 9 (12) sts from back of neck holder, place marker, k rem 8 (12) sts from back of neck holder, pick up 12 sts along left neck, k rem 4 (7) sts from front of neck holder.
Do not join; work back and forth as if with straight needles.
K first and last 4 sts of every row and rem sts in St st for 2 (2½)".
Cont in St st and k first and last 4 sts of every row and inc 1 st on each side of marker next and every 4th (6th) row 9 (6) times.
Work even in pat until hood measures 9 (10½)" from beg.

Finishing
Seam top of hood.
Sew in sleeves at markers. Seam sleeves and sides. Weave in ends on WS.
