Baby Hooded Cardigan Sweater Knitting Pattern

This is an easy knitting pattern for a hooded cardigan for babies. It comes in three sizes. You can use the same color yarn for the trim if you wish. A simple tie closes it at the top.

Sizes:
Newborn to 3 months (3-6 months, 6-12 months)
Finished Chest Measurement: 22 (24, 26)"
Finished Length: 8.75 (11.5, 12.5)"

Gauge:
20 sts and 25 rows=4" in St st

Materials:
Size 8 US (5 mm) needles
Size 8 US (5 mm) 29" circular needles
Size H-8 crochet hook (optional)
Stitch markers
Stitch holders
Large eye blunt needle
1 (2, 2) skeins Caron Simply Soft
Blue Mint 9608 (Color A)
6 ounces/170 grams 315 yards/288 meters
1 (1, 1) skein Caron Simply Soft
Oceana 0006 (Color B)
4 ounces/114 grams 208 yards/190 meters

Instructions
Back

With A, CO 56 (60, 66) sts. K 4 rows (.5"). Change to B.
With B, work in St st until piece meas 4.25 (6.5, 7)" from beg.
Place underarm markers.
Cont in St st until piece meas 8.75 (11.5, 12.5)" from beg.
BO 15 (16, 18) sts beg next 2 rows. Place rem 26 (28, 30) sts on holder for back neck.

Fronts (make 2)
With A, CO 25 (30, 33) sts. K 4 rows. Change to B.
With B, work as for Back until piece meas 7.5 (9, 10)".
Shape Neck
At neck edge, BO 8 (8, 8) sts then dec 1 st every other row 2 (6, 6) times.
Cont in St st until piece meas 8.75 (11.5, 12.5)". BO 15 (16, 18) sts.

Sleeves
With A, CO 25 (32, 36) sts. K 4 rows. Change to B.
With B, K 1 row.
Cont in St st and inc 1 st each end every other row 3 (2, 0) times, then every 4th row 5 (7, 10) times - 41 (50, 56) sts.
Work even until piece meas 6 (7, 8)". BO.

Right Front Band
Seam shoulders of Fronts to Back.
With RS facing and A, pick up 36 (41, 45) sts along straight edge from CO point to where Neck Shaping began.
K 2 rows.
Row 3 (make eyelet): K3, yo, k2tog, k to end.
Knit 1 row. BO.
Left Front Band
Complete as for Right Front Band but work Row 3: K to last 5 sts, k2tog, yo, k3.

Hood
Do not pick up sts along Bands but across sts worked along neck with color B only.
With RS facing, circular needles, and B, pick up 15 (21, 21) right front neck sts, k 13 (14, 15) sts from back neck holder, place marker, k rem 13 (14, 15) sts from holder, pick up 15 (21, 21) left front neck sts - 56 (70, 72) sts.
Work in St st, back and forth as if with straights.
Inc 1 st on each side of marker every 4th row 6 (6, 7) times - 68 (82, 86) sts Work even until hood meas 7 (7.5, 8)". BO.
Seam top of Hood.
Hood Band
With RS facing, circular needles, and A, pick up 72 (76, 80) sts along edge of Hood and 2 sts each across each Front Band. K 4 rows. BO.

Tie
With B, make crochet chain or I-Cord about 28" long. You can also use ribbon.

Finishing
Sew in sleeves between markers. Seam sleeves and sides. Weave in ends on WS.
