Two Needle Top Knot Baby Hat Knitting Pattern

Baby Booties And Top Knot Hat Knitting Pattern

Easy to knit baby hat on two needles features a simple knit and purl block pattern. The matching baby bootie pattern is available here.

Size:
Fits babies to about 9 months

Gauge:
14 sts and 18 rows=4" in St st

Materials:
Size 11 (8 mm) straight needles or size needed to obtain gauge
Size 11 (8 mm) double pointed needs for top knot on hat if desired
Puffin by Crystal Palace Yarns
1 ball Color #0202 Dotty Blues (second ball needed for matching booties)
100% polyester fleece
50 grams/1.75 ounces
84 yards/77 meters

Instructions
CO 66 sts.
Work in k1, p1 ribbing 2½" as follows:
*k1, p1; rep from *
Rep this row.

Work in Blocks Pattern 4 more inches:
Row 1: k1, *k2, p2; rep from *, end k1
Row 2: p1, *k2, p2; rep from *, end p1
Row 3: k1, *p2, k2: rep from *, end k1
Row 4: p1, *p2, k2; rep from *, end p1
Rep Rows 1-4.

Crown Decreases
Change to St st.
Row 1: *k4, k2tog; rep from * across - 55 sts
Rows 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12: P
Row 3: *k3, k2tog; rep from * across - 44 sts
Row 5: *k2, k2tog; rep from * across - 33 sts
Row 7: *k1, k2tog; rep from * across - 22 sts
Row 9: k2tog across - 11 sts
Row 11: k1, *k2 tog; rep from * across - 6 sts
Row 13: k2tog across - 3 sts

If desired, slip 3 sts to double points and work I-Cord for 1" for top knot. BO.
Alternatively, cut yarn leaving a long tail for seaming. Thread yarn through tapestry needle and slip through sts on needle. Pull tightly to close top of hat.

Finishing
Sew seam, reversing side that is seamed for brim when folded over in half. Weave in ends on WS.
