Lace Baby Blanket

Designed by Anne Claxon

baby blanket

Yarns:
Anything Baby Sport and a fingering weight, Diana, Mousse, Canadiana, Unger or whatever one strand, two strands, or three or more.

For the one I made, I used 4 (50 gr balls) Baby Unger in White and 4 balls Jamie Baby Fingering in pastel shades.

Needles:
#13 or #15 or #17 US according to number of yarns used. (I prefer using circular needles.)

Instructions:

Cast on 3 sts.

Increase Row: K1, YO, knit to end

Repeat increase row until afghan is desired length (I stopped at 34".).

Decrease Row: K1, YO, K2 tog, knit to the last 3 sts, K2 tog, K1.

Repeat decrease row until row is 3 sts.

Bind off loosely.

I put an edging around as follows:

Edge:

RND 1: Begin at any corner, ch 1 and work 3 sc, sc all around with 3 sc in each corner.
RND 2: Sc in same sc, * ch 3, sk 1 sc, sc in next sc; rep from * along each side. Corner: (sc, ch 3, sc) in each corner sc. Join with sl st to beg ch. Do not turn.
RND 3: Sl st to center of first ch 3 sp, * ch 4, sc in center of next ch 3 sp; rep from * all around. Corner: (Sc, ch 4, sc) in ea ch 3 corner sp. End with ch 4 in first ch 4 sp. Do not turn.
RND 4: * Ch 4, sc in ea ch 4 sp all around. Corner: (Sc, ch 4, sc) in ea ch 4 corner sp. Join with sl st to first ch 4 sp of rnd. Fasten off. Weave in yarn ends.

Thread 1/2" or 5/8" ribbon down each side of afghan loosely. Tie knot in each corner. Take different colors of 1/16" or 1/8" ribbon and make a bow but do not tie. Place in center of knot and tie together the two ends of wider ribbon.

Alternative Edge:

RND 1: Begin at any corner, Ch 1 and work 3 sc, sc all around.
RND 2: Join with sl st, ch 1, do not turn. Work 1 sc in each sc; 3 sc in each corner, sc all around.
RND 3: Join with sl st, ch 1, do not turn. sc in first st, skip next 2 sts, 7 dc in next st, skip next 2 sts, sc in next st.

Make sure there are 7 dc in the center of each corner. You may need to adjust how many sts are skipped. Join. Fasten off. You can run ribbon through the YO's for something a little special.
